September 2009

• Newsweek magazine named Sonoco one of the United States' 100 greenest large companies in its inaugural Green Rankings, which evaluated the country's 500 largest companies on their environmental performance, green policies and reputation. Sonoco was listed 94th in the rankings.
• Sonoco was one of only seven U.S. companies selected to join the prestigious Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DSJI) in 2009. Companies in the DJSI World are considered the leading global companies in economic performance, environmental stewardship and social responsibility.

July 2009

• Sonoco received an International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) for its work in co-developing a new protective packaging design for Hewlett-Packard LaserJet office printers.

• Flexible Packaging magazine named Sonoco number 15 on its 2009 list of Top 25 Flexible Packaging Converters.  

April 2009

• Sonoco was listed at 542, up from 550 in 2008, on the 2009 Fortune 1000 list
• The seven-color, matte-finished, three-ply foil-based flexible bags Sonoco designed and is producing for PJ's Coffee received an Honorable Mention in the Flexible Packaging - Bags category of the PLGA 2009 Global Print Quality Awards
• Sonoco's point-of-purchase display business received three Outstanding Merchandising Awards (OMAs) at the 51st Annual Point of Purchase Advertising International design competition. The Company received a Gold OMA for its C.F. Sauer's Spices Category Management System and Silver Awards for its Scotts Roundup^® Pump 'N Go Motion Handle Pallet Display and Prilosec OTC^® NASCAR Half-Pallet Display.  

March 2009

• Thirteen Sonoco locations in South Carolina were recognized with 2008 Safety Awards from the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce for making workplace safety a priority
• The Institute of Packaging Professionals (IOPP) honored the sleek Linearpak^® package that Sonoco designed and is producing for Target’s Archer Farms^® cereals with a 2008 AmeriStar Award
• Harris E. DeLoach, Sonoco chairman, president and CEO, was named 2009’s recipient of the prestigious 17th Annual Dr. Charles H. Townes Award by the South Carolina Governor’s School for Science and Math
