Charles Westfield Coker Chief executive officer 1918–1931

Thebuilder As our first salesman, Charles Westfield Coker set out to build upon Southern Novelty Company's early accomplishments. During his term, we laid out basic employee and customer policies that are still being followed today. In 1923, he began Sonoco's move into international markets through an affiliation with T.P.T. of England.

The diversifier Under his leadership, we expanded both its plant structure and its earnings. He began to diversify Sonoco, spearheading expansion into new markets, both domestically and internationally. His leadership set the stage for the second half of Sonoco's first century.

PeterBrowning joined Sonoco as executive vice president in 1993, with responsibilities for our global industrial products and paper divisions. He led Sonoco into its second century with a strategy based on four drivers:

Harris E. DeLoach, Jr. Chief executive officer 2000–present Chairman 2005–present

HarrisDeLoach, Jr. was named chairman of the board, president and chief executive officer in April 2005.
Previously he was president and chief executive officer from July 2000-2005 and chief operating officer April-July 2000. In 1999, he was promoted to senior executive vice president. From 1999-2000 he was senior executive vice president global industrial products/paper/molded plastics; and from 1996-1998 he was executive vice president, high density film, industrial container, fibre partitions, protective packaging, molded plastics and wire and cable reels. He joined Sonoco in 1985 as general counsel.
Under his leadership, the company is forging new areas of growth by focusing on core competencies and developing new strategies to serve customers with packaging product and service solutions.
